Five neighbors who lived through something and turned it into a program in Anacostia Park.

Friends of Anacostia Park runs the Fellowship. It takes neighbors who already do this work and pays them to do it in the park.

About the Fellowship

Friends of Anacostia Park runs the Fellowship. It takes neighbors who already do this work and pays them to do it in the park.

1.

Lived experience as expertise

Each Fellow turned what kept them going into something their park could offer.

2.

Care before crisis

People come to the park before they end up in [an emergency room, a courtroom, or a shelter].

3.

Paid work

Fellows get a stipend and training in running a small business or nonprofit, so the programs they run free in the park can become paid work for sponsors and corporate clients.

4.

A written record

The Fellows' programs are written up so another park could run them. That record is part of the curriculum for the NRPA credential.
